IN PHYSICAL EDUCATION CLASSES AT IMMACULATE CONCEPTION SCHOOL

September

During September, the students will continue warm-up exercises, and then play indoor soccer as they work on their skills for the season. In mid-Sept, grades 5-8 will begin basketball as they get ready for the season, and grade 4 will get introduced to basketball

We will open each class with our warm-ups.

The lower grades will  work on fundamental skill movements, such as throwing, catching, and kicking.   With grades 1 thru 3, the  emphasis will be on coordination and simple skills (running, catching, hand-eye coordination etc.), and learning to play with your classmates as teammates.

Students in grades 6 through 8 at ICS actively engaged in a sport, whether at school or not, may take a study period in the gym during PE class.  If the sport is not a SCHOOL activity, the student will need a note from their parents telling of their activity.

In PE classes during the year, all students do our warm-up exercises.  This lasts for about 10 minutes and consists of jumping jacks, coordinators, toe-touches, V sit-ups, leg lifts, hamstring stretches, and push-ups.  We then repeat the first two exercises.

These warm-ups are good for cardio-vascular, coordination, flexibility, and strength.  ALL students are expected to do the exercises unless not feeling well or injured.   That way I know that if they do not like the game activity for the day, and do not participate very much, they still have received some exercise.

All students do need to try to participate in the activity, regardless of their ability.  I am trying to make physical activity fun.

If they are capable of doing the activity and decide not to, their grade will suffer because of lack of participation.

Grades are determined by ATTITUDE, COOPERATION, & PARTICIPATION.

The grade is not based in any way on athletic ability.

Special activities during the year will be: Yoga, Jump Rope for Heart, and dancing for ALL grades, and roller skating for grades 7 and 8.
